June 12, 2006 Media contact: Bob Watters, Vice President SSA Marine, Seattle (206) 654-3575 SSA Terminals Receives Air Quality Improvement Award of Excellence SEATTLE—SSA Terminals received an "Air Quality Improvement Award of Excellence" from the Port of Long Beach. This award is in recognition of outstanding efforts to reduce emissions from cargo handling equipment. The Port's 2005 Emissions Inventory for cargo handling equipment indicates a significant overall improvement from baseline 2002 conditions. Nitrogen oxide emissions were reduced by 25%, or nearly 600 tons per year, and particulate matter emissions were reduced by 50% or over 70 tons per year. SSA Terminals operates Pacific Container Terminal, Terminal A and Terminal C60 in the Port of Long Beach. Over 170 pieces of equipment were fitted with muffler and filtration systems at the three terminals. Funding reimbursement for the "Diesel Emission Reduction Program" for equipment and installation was provided by the Port of Long Beach, the California Air Resource Board and the EPA. SSA Terminals' Chief Operating Officer, Ed DeNike said, "the environmental issues we face today are critical to both SSA Terminals and the communities in which we operate. It is gratifying to receive this type of award from the Port of Long Beach. We pledge to continue our effort to reduce air contaminants from waterfront equipment to the fullest extent possible." SSA Terminals, is a joint venture between SSA Marine and Matson Navigation.
