March 11, 2004 Media contacts: Laurel Hart, SSA Marine, Seattle (206) 654-3593 SSA Marine Recognized for Safety Record at PMA Events on West Coast SEATTLE-At the March 2, 2004 Pacific Maritime Association safety awards banquet in Long Beach, CA, SSA Marine was recognized for an outstanding safety record in 2003. The company was awarded first place in the Coast Awards, in the category of Group A Stevedore (company with greater than 400,000 man hours). The award is given to the company with the lowest incident rate in their class for the entire West Coast. Terminals operated by the company on the West Coast include Terminal A, Terminal C60 and Pacific Container Terminal in Long Beach; Terminal 57-59 in Oakland; and Terminal 18 in Seattle. "We're very proud of the managers and superintendents at our facilities who've done a fantastic job making safety their first priority", said Rich Buonocore, SSA Marine's safety director - California. In Northern California the company received First Place, Group A Stevedore. SSA Marine received Injury Rate Reduction awards at the regional events throughout the week. Rob Dieda, PNW safety director for SSA Marine added, "We promote safety constantly throughout all levels of the company. By addressing the safety issues in our operating environment, we can ensure the safety of our employees as well as the efficient operation of our facilities. " These awards reinforce SSA Marine's high operating standards. In a poll taken recently by Marine Digest, SSA Marine was voted first in Best Overall Standards for Marine Terminal Operators.
